Investigating the Principles and Philosophical Approaches to Research and the role of factors related to the tendency of teachers to research

Abstract

The present study aims at investigating the factors affecting Tehran upper-secondary school teachers' tendency to carry out research studies and presenting some solutions to enhance this tendency. The sample of this study consists of all Tehrani upper-secondary boys-school teachers in 1393-1394 (2014-2015) educational year which included 921 teachers and through 271 teachers were selected for the main phase of this study. The questionnaires were used in this study. The first questionnaire which investigated the factors relating teachers' tendency to carry out research studies was researcher-made and the second one was the standardized Papanastasiou questionnaire which deals with attitudes towards research. To determine the validity of these questionnaire face and content validity was used. The reliability of these questionnaires was also calculated through Cronbach alpha formula and the reliability coefficient for both of them was at a satisfactory level: questionnaire one= 0/86, questionnaire two: 0/91. The findings of the study indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between organizational, financial, individual, and social factors and teachers' tendency to carry out research studies (p<0/05). Teachers' tendency to carry cut research study was mainly correlated with financial factors (0/73) which were followed by social (0/67), individual (0/52) and lastly organizational factors (0/30)
